Cinci alpinişti au murit după ce au fost surprinşi de o furtună de zăpadă pe Muntele Elbrus din Rusia, cel mai înalt masiv din Europa, au anunţat autorităţile.
Alţi 14 membri ai grupului au fost salvaţi de pe acest masiv din Caucaz, după ce au fost surprinşi de vânturi puternice şi căderi masive de zăpadă, precum şi de temperaturi de -20 de grade Celsius, a precizat ministerul regional pentru situaţii de urgenţă.

Grupul de alpinişti ruşi a lansat un mesaj de ajutor joi, în jurul orei 17:00 (14:00 GMT), a adăugat ministerul. Unsprezece dintre supravieţuitori au fost transportaţi la spital, se mai precizează în comunicat.
Unul dintre alpinişti şi-a fracturat piciorul în timp ce cobora de pe munte, a precizat Denis Alimov, ghidul care a organizat expediţia, pentru agenţia de presă TASS, citată de Agerpres.
„Probabil din această cauză grupul a pierdut timp, condiţiile meteo s-au deteriorat catastrofal… Au decis să împartă grupul în trei – cei care merg mai repede şi cei care merg mai încet”, a declarat acesta pentru TASS.
„În timpul coborârii, alte două persoane dintr-un grup au decedat. Dar decizia de a se despărţi a fost una corectă, căci altfel ar fi exista mai multe victime”, a mai spus el.
Ghizii care au însoţit grupul au suferit degerături şi alte răni, a declarat Alimov pentru TASS.
Muntele Elbrus, cu o altitudine de 5.642 de metri, situat la nord de graniţa cu Georgia, este cunoscut pentru schimbări neaşteptate ale condiţiilor meteo.
